2013-03-27: Spamhaus target of "Largest DDoS In Internet History"
Level Three Attack
Spamhaus is reportedly the target of the largest DDoS in Internet history, topping out at 300 gigabits per second according to CloudFlare and the NY Times. Reportedly, this attack has also caused Internet slowdowns across Europe.
Still, this attack only satisfies the Level Three rules of the Gibson Index: it's a prime example of a coordinated multi-target large-scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. The targets in this case appear to be the network of DNS servers under Spamhaus control, and the likely explanation for the attack is a Dutch hosting firm that is disagreeing with Spamhaus having called them spammers.
