2013-03-22: The TD Bank Job (Denial of Service Attack)
Level One Event
TD Bank reports that they were unavailable for a period of a few hours on March 21st after sustaining a DDoS attack. Website and Mobile banking servers were offline, but telephone, ATM, and in-branch servers were fully operational.
TD says that due to the nature of the attack (pounding their online services with fake traffic), customer information and accounts were completely safe.
The outage's short timeframe and the non-penetrative nature of the attacks qualify this as a Gibson Level One Event - in other words, a relatively minor occurrence.
TD Bank Twitter, March 21st:
We are currently experiencing a service interruption & are working to restore services. For your banking needs, call EasyLine 1-866-222-3456
